ACADEMICS

"The Academy is, perhaps, not only one of the best-kept secrets among independent secondary schools, but also one of the few that are truly unique,” says headmaster Timothy A. Daniel. “Our founders set out to offer advantages to high school students they could find nowhere else, and over the years, those advantages have helped generations of young women prepare and lead extraordinary lives- academically, professionally, and personally.”

The Brenau academic program is designed to nurture open and inquiring minds and to prepare graduates for success in college- and beyond. Through our association with Brenau University, we offer students distinct advantages: they can enroll in college courses while still in secondary school, attend concerts and lectures and make unfettered use of the extensive facilities on our shared campus. All learning styles welcomed: The Brenau Learning Center provides added structure, support, advising and tutoring services for college-bound students with learning disabilities.

The courses are scheduled in a traditional pattern for a seven-period day.  Academic courses are scheduled during the first six periods.  The seventh period is reserved for non-academic courses in the performing arts and publications.  Following seventh period, help sessions are available with teachers.  The schedule is coordinated to permit advanced students to enroll in courses at Brenau University.

Standardized testing:
The counseling staff administers the PSAT to all sophomores and juniors in the Fall term. In addition, students are provided access to online SAT and ACT registration and test preparation materials. The student, not the counseling staff, is responsible for registration of the SAT, ACT, TOEFL or other tests.
