Artist Kathy Fincher visits Brenau Academy for Alumna Lecture Series
1970 Brenau Academy alum, Kathy Andrews Fincher, visited the Brenau campus on December 3rd, 2008 to share with current students the fascinating story of her life as a professional artist. Now known nationally as a conventional "female Norman Rockwell," Fincher is one of the nation´s most widely trademarked artists, and her prints, figurines, books, and cards are available at many chain bookstores, gift shops, and Christian stores. One of her paintings, depicting children painting an American flag, now hangs in the White House, after it was gifted to Laura Bush in 2002.
Kathy´s vibrant personality engaged the entire student body as she recalled some fun adventures she and her friends had as Brenau students. Her stories ranged from catching bats in the North Georgia mountains (and releasing them on campus!), to competing as a national water-skiing champion. Kathy´s life has taken her many places, and learning about how she achieved her goals, both personal and professional, was beneficial and enlightening to current Brenau Academy students.
Kathy´s visit was part of an alumna lecture series arranged to help current Brenau Academy students learn about the many career opportunities that lie in their future, and how some of the Academy´s own graduates have achieved success in a variety of professions. The series has included visits from award-winning costume designer, Janie Bryant ´85, UGA law professor, Cami Watson ´68, and local community actress, Angie Harrell ´84.
